This service is offered in partnership with the Kingswood Community Mental Health Team and is available to women living in South Gloucestershire.
Trained volunteers provide weekly support for women who have mental health issues and who feel isolated.
Befrienders spend up to three hours a week for a year helping women to build up their social support networks, self-esteem and confidence.
Befrienders are trained and receive regular support for their work.
You can access our befriending service by a referral from a support worker or health care professional.
The Befriending Service has been awarded Approved Provider Status by the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation, the national benchmark for safe and effective practice.
With help and encouragement from my befriender, I am now more confident. I've got my first ever job and I feel worthy and capable.
Since being befriended, I have stayed out of hospital and I no longer need intensive support from the mental health team.
My Befriender provided me with much needed support and encouragement and having a service got me out of the house each week.
